Since the viral Twitter post this week, rumors have been flying that the embattled actor Armie Hammer could be employed at an resort hotel in the Cayman Island. In spite of denials on the record from the hotel in question the speculations haven’t been cleared up as of yet, thanks to pictures which appear to depict Hammer working in the hotel as well as reports suggesting that the resort is providing him with cover.
In the hope of getting an understanding, EW called Hammer’s lawyer Andrew Brettler, on Wednesday to inquire if Hammer’s attorney Andrew Brettler was able to confirm that the Dead on the Nile and Call Me By Your Name actor is actually selling timeshares throughout the Caribbean.
“I can’t confirm or deny it because Armie hasn’t addressed it,” Brettler stated via email. “I just think it’s s—y that, if he is selling timeshares, the media is shaming him for having a ‘normal job.’ What’s the story here?”
This is what we’re trying to understand.
The drama began on the 6th of July on the 6th of July when Muna Mire, who is a producer at Desus and Mero posted an advertisement from the Morritt’s Resort located on Grand Cayman indicating that Hammer was employed as concierge. (The tweet was later deleted.) The hotel’s employees denied to EW and other media outlets that Hammer was there and claimed that the whole incident was an prank. “You can’t pay for this publicity,” an Morritt’s employee said to EW.
The tale was made more complicated when the TMZ website published images that appeared to depict Hammer acting as a salesperson for timeshares. However, the resort claimed the images were of Hammer in the resort’s office. Chris Butcher, director of sales at Morritt’s, told the Los Angeles Times thaton Monday Hammer was not an employee however he was golfing with an employee who invited Hammer to “come and see what we do.”
A few days later, Variety revealed that Hammer has been working on behalf of Morritt’s timeshare sales according to an anonymous source that said the hotel was acting as a replacement for him.
“He is working at the resort and selling timeshares. He is working at a cubicle,” the source told. “The reality is he’s totally broke, and is trying to fill the days and earn money to support his family.”
When EW reached out to the hotel Wednesday evening for comment the hotel’s employee informed us that the management staff had all left for the day.
Hammer was sacked in the year 2000 following being entangled in a scandal on social media in the year prior to was accused of sexual harassment. Hammer has called the social media scandal “bulls —” and categorically denied sexual assault allegations.
However, despite the denials, Hammer was dropped by his publicist and agency. He also was forced to leave several screen projects planned by Hammer for the future, including his movie Shotgun Wedding, the TV series The Offer, and the Broadway show The Minutes. The final time Hammer was filming was The Death of the Nile that was shot in 2019 and then made its debut in February.
