UFC 280 will be headlined by Charles Oliveira-Islam Makhachev lightweight title fight on Oct. 22nd in Abu Dhabi

UFC has scheduled a lightweight title fight between Charles Oliveira & Islam Makhachev for UFC 280 Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The UFC 280 pay per view event will take place at Etihad Arena on Oct. 22. Officials revealed the lightweight contest on Saturday.

Officially, the fight is for the vacant UFC 155-pound title. However, most of the UFC view Oliveira (33-28) as the defending champion.

Oliveira of Brazil won the title in 2021 by defeating Michael Chandler. In December, he successfully defended his belt against Dustin poirier but he then gave up the title in May because he couldn’t gain weight to defend against Justin Gaethje.

Oliveira submitted Gaethje in round one of UFC 274. Officially, the result was a non-title fight for Oliveira. He has now won 11 consecutive bouts. This streak also includes 10 finishes.

Makhachev (22-1), is widely considered to be the greatest threat to Oliveira. Makhachev, a longtime friend of former champion Khabib Numagomedov has won 10 consecutive UFC fights. He defeated his four previous opponents, including two consecutive rounds in the first round.
