Real Madrid vs Club America outcome: Karim Benzema nets goal in return, but the friendly concludes at 2-2

Karim The Benzema scored a dazzling goal in his debut game of the preseason However, Club America held defending European and Spanish champions Real Madrid to a 2-2 draw in a friendly warm-up game held at Oracle Park in San Francisco.

Club America claimed an early advantage that was the perfect reward for a spirited start for the Mexican team, however Benzema scored a goal with a well placed low curl after a quick mash-up with the teammate. The Frenchman took part in the entire opening period, and was substituted in the second half by Eden Hazard at the break.

Alongside Hazard, Real Madrid virtually announced a new line-up during the second period, which allowed the two teams to exchange penalty kicks, leading to the final score of 2-2. The first goal came from Hazard who scored the goal for Real Madrid from the spot after the right-back Lucas Vazquez went down in the box following a tackle.

However, with just eight minutes remaining in the game, ex- Real Madrid youth product Alvaro Fidalgo scored a penalty for his dribbling move into the box. He then was able to score the penalty. He scored the second attempt, after the first goal was blocked by goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin was off the line, resulting in a retake, which was ordered by the official.

Real Madrid had a flurry of opportunities during the closing 15 minutes game but Club America goalkeeper Oscar Jimenez was up to the challenge as he smothered David Alaba a big chance during the final kick of the game. Jimenez’s save from the outside helped secure the draw, which was 2-2.

It was a very deserved win that was deserved by Club America, which had previously lost 2-1 against Chelsea as well as Manchester City in friendlies held during the week. Club America hopes to get some of the momentum gained from the game to carry it into next season’s Liga MX season, where it’s started with just only one win from four games and has a game against Leon to be played this weekend.

Real Madrid will be taking on Juventus in a final preseason game in the USA prior to focusing on the first silverware piece which will be up for grabs when they take on Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Super Cup (Aug. 10).
