Where exactly San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be going in 2022 is not known.

One thing is for certain that Garoppolo isn’t headed to the Niners physically unable to play list.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport said on Tuesday that Garoppolo has passed his physical and won’t be put on the PUP list until training camp starts. Because of Garoppolo having passed his physical, the Niners are also now free of the $7.5 million injury-related guarantee for the QB.

Garoppolo is anticipated to be cleared of all traces by mid-August, as per an Rapoport review on 19 July The wheels are definitely moving towards Jimmy G departing San Francisco by way of trade.

In order for that to happen however, Rapoport stressed earlier this month that Garoppolo is required to be fit and healthy to play. Passing the physical is an important move towards that.

Garoppolo was injured on his shoulder in his team’s Niners’ NFC wild-card win against the Dallas Cowboys last season. This injury necessitated surgery and rehabilitation, which prevented him from participating in the mandatory minicamp. The injury and Garoppolo’s inability to throw the ball ended the team’s plans to sell his services and open the way for 2021’s first-round draft selection Trey Lance to assume the offensive reins.

Coach Kyle Shanahan has made crystal clear the team is the Lance’s team right now, so what’s next is Garoppolo showing he’s a full-time player and is capable of making all throws.

Garoppolo has been playing for the 49ers for the past 5 seasons, serving as the team’s starting quarterback and has a 31-14 mark as a starter, with two playoff appearances, including the team’s run to the Super Bowl.
