London weather

Closed Monday due to extreme heat in London

Due to “heat-related speed restrictions”, there were severe delays on many lines, including the Central, District, Metropolitan, and Bakerloo, for most of the day.

The Overground was suspended and no service was available on Hammersmith and City Line. As the capital braced for the hottest day ever recorded, temperatures were expected to reach at least 38C.

Network Rail stated that it discovered a problem at Vauxhall because of “extreme heat” as the mercury rose towards an all-time high in the UK.

It stated on Twitter that the rail temperature is more than 48 degrees Celsius. Therefore, it painted the rails white to keep them from getting any hotter.
