The Colorado Avalanche didn’t practice today and is currently in Edmonton, Alberta in preparation for Games 3 & 4 of the Western Conference finals against the Oilers.

Last night’s game is still a masterpiece in my eyes. Jared Bednar said that it was one the “best checking games” in a while. Nathan MacKinnon had 11 goals, Leon Draisaitl had five, and Connor McDavid had five.

Although I wasn’t at the DIA media availability this morning, I know many of you are curious about Darcy Kuemper. One reporter asked Darcy Kuemper, just as Bednar was ending his availability, “How are you doing?”

Bednar replied, “Darcy’s Good.” There was no follow-up.

It should have been “Is Darcy available to play tomorrow, if necessary?”. I don’t think the answer would be any different but it might have required a more specific answer.

NOTEBOOK

  • Pavel Francouz will start Game 3 regardless of what happens. He just came off a 24-save shutout.
  • Kuemper’s injury seems to be minor.
  • This is it seems like anyway.
  • Ryan Boulding from the Avs, was present at the media availability and said that he saw Hunter Miska board the plane along with other passengers. I’m not able to keep track of the Avs third goalie right now. One day it’s Justus Annunen, next day it’s Hunter Miska. They might both be going.
  • MacKinnon appears to be fine. Although he was shaking his hand and being inspected by the trainer, there is nothing that suggests he has been hurt.
  • Nicolas Aube Kubel’s contributions to the game last night were great. He was a scratch but had five hits , which was a record for the team.
  • Andre Burakovsky is still in serious condition. Yesterday, he was seen walking with severe limping. He blocked a shot during Game 1, and continued to play, but things have gotten worse over the night.
  • After two games, the view from Edmonton. They’re a bit worried ( Edmonton Journal).
  • Colorado Hockey Now is in Edmonton (via Calgary). Kelsey Hammond and I will be there. I would like to see extensive coverage. Terry Frei could not make it. The trip was not cheap (it’s absurd, some of the price gouging happening in the travel industry right at the moment – looking to you, rental car companies, airlines), so thank you for making it easier with your Avs Tourism Tip Jar donations. If you would like to contribute, the Tip Jar is still available ( link). We are grateful to Matthew Getzelman, Brickhouse Creative, and Myles Edwards for their recent donations.
  • I hope to be able to meet Ben Stelter in Edmonton. Click here to learn more about his life. He is the toughest guy at the game.
